1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy is effective as of January 31, 2021.

At International Heart Spasms Alliance, we care about your privacy and believe in transparency. That is why we are committed to being upfront about our privacy practices. We only collect personal information necessary to deliver our services and we handle it carefully and sensibly.

This privacy policy describes how information and data is processed on the IHSA website or any other website or application associated with IHSA, including third party websites or applications. Please be advised that information and data provided to us via a third-party website or application may be separately collected by the third-party website or application. The information and data collected by the IHSA website is covered by this privacy policy, and the information and data collected by a third-party website or application is subject to the third-party website or application’s privacy policy. Privacy choices made by you on a third-party website or application do not apply to IHSA’s use of information and data collected by the IHSA website. The IHSA website may contain links to third-party website or applications not affiliated with IHSA and not controlled by IHSA, and IHSA is not responsible for the privacy practices of those third-party websites or applications.

2. What personal data we collect and why we collect it

When you visit the IHSA website, the following information may be collected:

  • Location information, including location information provided by a mobile device or associated with your IP address;
  • Activity information about your use, and the use by any person(s) you authorize, of the IHSA website, or any website or application associated with IHSA, including, but not limited to, the content you view or post;
  • Usage, viewing, technical, and device data when you visit the IHSA website, or any website or application associated with IHSA, or open emails we send, including your browser and device type, unique device identifier, and IP address;
  • Personal information provided voluntarily by you to IHSA, such as, but not limited to, your first and last name, address, phone number, country of residence, gender, date of birth, and email address.

IHSA collects information provided to us through the IHSA website or through direct contact with an IHSA representative. IHSA may collect information via the IHSA website by using cookies, pixels, tags, software development kits, and application program interfaces. Please be advised that you may be able to disable cookies on your personal device and otherwise make choices with respect to data collection.

a. Media

If you upload images to the IHSA website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the IHSA website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

b. Contact forms

All contact form submissions are stored for purposes disclosed to you at the time we collect your information or pursuant to your consent.

c. Embedded content from other websites

Articles and other content on the IHSA website may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

3. Who we share your data with

IHSA will not share information collected on the IHSA website with any third party except as otherwise stated in this Privacy Policy.

4. Security

The IHSA website uses professional security software. This helps to ensure data breaches do not occur and our website and data are protected against hacking attempts and intrusion.

The IHSA website’s security software protects website visitors and works to block potential hacks while monitoring website traffic and any filesystem changes.

a. Cookies

If you visit the IHSA website’s login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Our website’s security software never stores any sensitive, personally identifiable information in any cookie at any time. In the case that the website’s security software needs to redirect a visitor or any request, it may use a cookie to prevent repeated/infinite redirect loops. For registered/logged-in users, the website’s security software uses a cookie to track user sessions and control display of certain development features administrative notices. The IHSA website’s security software does not normally use Cookies for unregistered website visitors. It may, however, use a cookie to register the closure of the website’s security software badge to prevent repeated display.

b. Data storage: user sessions

For logged-in users, the IHSA website’s security software stores information on the username, the IP address and the time of last login and last activity. This information is purged upon logout or data cleanup.

c. Data storage: audit trail

The IHSA website’s security software has an audit trail feature that will log the following information:

  • Audit trail message that may include email addresses;
  • Logged-in username (where applicable);
  • Originating IP address of the request.

For logged-in users this represents information that may be used to locate (by IP address) and identify individuals and their activity on the IHSA website. This information is stored for security purposes only by the website administrator. This data will be retained and then automatically purged from the database after a fixed time period, as determined by the website administrator.

5. Changes to the IHSA Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time. If we decide to make any changes to our Privacy Policy, we will post the changes to this Privacy Policy here and on any other place we deem as appropriate, so that you are aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it.
